Born
8 December 1919 in Warsaw. Died: 26 February 1996 in Moscow.
Education
At Warsaw Conservatory from 1931-1939 (piano under
Turczynski). At Minsk Conservatory (composition under Solotarov) from
1939-1941. In Tashkent from 1941-1943. In Moscow in 1943.
Principal Works
Twenty-two symphonies, seven operas, seventeen string
quartets, sonatas for various instruments, several concertos, various
chamber music works with piano, including a piano quintet.

Style
Some of his works contain elements of Jewish folklore,

His music can be characterized as expressive neoclassic music.
Frequently he deals in a virtuosic way with the
string orchestra and uses many cadenzas.
